Treatment Protocols

Differential Diagnosis

The key to determining what treatment protocol to use lies in the differential diagnosis. That starts with a good history and examination followed testing, if necessary, and then by using specific outcome measures to objectively measure each patient's results.  I often tell my patients that "God gives you the right to have more than one thing going on."  Let's take neuropathy for example.  Is it mono-neuropathy with an entrapment of a nerve or poly-neuropathy involving several nerves?  If it's diabetic neuropathy with peripheral artery disease involved then we must also treat the vascular component as well as the neurological.

How do you know what is needed for your condition. That is why we offer a Free/No Cost* consultation with Dr Millar or his Doctors to discuss your problems. Call 1-800 Why Hurt today for your Free* Consultation appointment.

Neuropathy: LAR Protocol

At the Laser Pain Center Huntsville in treating neuropathy we utilize three primary treatment modalities:

  1. Laser Therapy - used primarily to treat pain and inflammation
  2. Anodyne Therapy - used to primarily treat the vascular component and increase blood flow.
  3. Rebuilder Therapy - used to treat the nerves

Together the Cutting Edge MLS Robotic Laser along with the Anodyne Therapy and the ReBuilder Therapy make up the "LAR Protocol". Using these three in various quantities and setting we develop a personalized treatment plan to address your neuropathy pain and problems.

Many of our patients say they have already tried Anodyne therapy without success. Anodyne Therapy was never intended as a sole treatment for Neuropathy or nerve pain. Anodyne therapy was designed to treat PAD - peripheral Artery Disease and painful circulatory conditions. For that reason, a few neuropathys will respond to Anodyne Therapy by itself but most will not. So many doctors and clinics tried to treat all neuropathies with Anodyne Therapy in the past. We didn't have many choices 15 years ago when Anodyne was introduced. It was better than drugs but the results of the Anodyne Therapy alone for the treatment of neuropathy was challenging. On the other hand, Anodyne Therapy results for the treatment of PAD or other painful circulatory conditions is excellent. Anodyne Therapy used along with the Laser in the treatment of Neuropathy produces excellent results.

The ReBuilder acts like a pacemaker for your nerves. It causes the nerve to fire and re-fire at 7.83Hz a sec. That frequency is the exact frequency that nerves need to heal themselves. Firing the nerve over and over again re-establishes normal nerve response. In effect it rebuilds the nerve pathway.

So how many visit will it take. First is the problem Acute (newer than 6 weeks) or Chronic (longer than 6 weeks).  Acute problems normally take fewer visits. A severe chronic problem such as neuropathy can take 24 or more treatments. This is all based on the severity of your condition. Again there is no cookie cutter. Results do vary. Nothing works for everyone. We are seeing success rates of around ±70-75% for chronic problems and higher for acute problems.  This is based on our experience of treating patients for the past 18 months and not studies. If we think you need more than 12 visits, we will only take your case with a 12 visit trial. After 12 visits if your not getting better (no results) then our program is not for you.  But,  if you have improved and we think you can improve more after the 12 visit trial then we will recommend a continuation of treatment of ever how many visits we feel necessary to treat your condition. Of course you're the determining factor. We tell patients, "as long as you're getting benefit then continue. If not ,then stop treatment".  For chronic conditions one should assume that some maintenance treatments will probably be necessary.

Knee, Shoulder, Ankle, Wrist: AARP Protocol

Do you have Knee, Shoulder, Ankle or Wrist pain? The Laser Pain Center Huntsville utilizes the renowned "AARP Protocol". The Advanced Arthritis ReBuilder Protocol utilizes the Cutting Edge MLS Robotic Laser and the ReBuilder with specialized knee, ankle, shoulder or wrist straps to focus the healing energy into the joint.

The results of the AARP Protocol have been simply amazing. Both the doctors and patients are impressed with the outcomes. Studies published in 2013 have already shown that the ReBuilder is superior to hyaluronic acid injections for the management of knee pain [1]. 2012 studies also showed that Cutting Edge MLS Robotic Laser was even superior to ReBuilder[2]. But when you add the two treatment together for the AARP Protocol the results were simply amazing for knee, ankle, shoulder and wrist pain and symptoms.

So again how many visits will it take? First is the problem Acute (newer than 6 weeks) or Chronic (longer than 6 weeks).  Acute problems normally take fewer visits. An acute strain sprain can be managed in 3-6 visits while some chronic problems can take 10-12 visits. A severe chronic joint problem can take 15 or more treatments. This is all based on the severity and duration of your condition. Again there is no cookie cutter. Results do vary. Nothing works for everyone. We are seeing success rates of around +-70/80% for chronic problems and higher for acute problems.  This is based on our experience of treating patients. If you do need more than 12 visits, we will only take your case with a 12 visit trial. After 12 visits if your not getting better then laser is not for you.  But,  if you have improved and we think you can improve more after the 12 visit trial then we will recommend a continuation  of treatment of ever how many visits we feel necessary to treat your condition. Of course your the determining factor. We tell patients "as long as your getting benefit then continue if not then stop treatment".  For chronic conditions one should assume that some maintenance treatments will probably be necessary.
